Navigating Normalcy

View Original

Hello and Welcome!

For years my deepest desire was to become famous. To be known, recognized, important - this was my goal. As an enneagram 4, I was searching for… something, and that “something,” I surmised, was notoriety. Growing up we didn’t have a lot of money. Fame would solve that. I wanted to travel and explore the world. Fame would solve that. And, at my core, I wanted to be loved and accepted by everyone in my life. Fame would solve that, too.

But the simple fact is, 7 billion-or-so of us are leading normal lives. We work for a living, we pay our bills mostly on time, and anything beyond simple survival puts us in the top 1% of the population. We won’t be featured on Entertainment Tonight. Oprah won’t be interviewing us, and we won’t be retiring early with a million dollar nest egg. We’re normal. Regular people navigating life. And that regular life is beautiful. It’s satisfying. And, with a little intentionality, it can be an incredibly fulfilling and fun journey.

As an aspiring memoirist, I want to explore the normalcy of life. This isn’t going to be a meticulously planned 3-step guide to climbing the corporate ladder or becoming a social media influencer. Rather, it’s a stream-of-consciousness exploration of normalcy. Together we will find meaning in the seemingly mundane. We will dive into the awkward tension of relationships, work, religion, politics… everything that is part of living life.

So let’s dive in, share our stories, and celebrate our lives together.
