"Kid" Rides?

When I was a kid, certain rides just terrified me. I mean, that’s the whole point of some of them, right? Roller coasters, The Haunted Mansion, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride… Yup, you read that right – Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride scared the heck out of me.

Sure, it starts out fun – a walk through Fantasyland, happy music as you wait in the queue, and a fun little antique car to whisk you away into the silly story of The Wind in the Willows. We start off wildly (see what I did there?) trapesing through the plot of the film in classic Disney dark ride fashion, black lights, loud sound effects, and all. The tone turns dark when we get to Mr. Toad’s trial (because that’s what kids love, animated judicial commentary!), and, in the final room, we witness Mr. Toad being sentenced to hell, complete with a fanged, pointing judge and screaming demon.

I seriously freaked out. Who wouldn’t? Sure, other Fantasyland dark rides are pretty creepy, too (heck, the Snow White ride is actually called Snow White’s Scary Adventures). But, none of them end with the main character sentenced to hell!

What rides freaked you out as a kid? Do you enjoy them now?
