Canceled = Lame
As many of you know, I grew up in Huntington Beach, CA, but currently live in Denver, CO. This is an eventful week, as my little sister is getting married back home on Saturday! So, naturally, I planned to fly out a couple days early to spend some time at the Happiest Place on Earth.
Well, Mother Nature has something else in mind, as the Bomb Cyclone (aka Winter Storm Ulmer) brought a full-on blizzard to my neighborhood. And no, I don’t just mean a snow storm I’m begrudgingly calling a “blizzard”; it’s a legit, by-definition blizzard. Fun fact: to qualify as a blizzard an area has to have less than 1/4 mile of visibility and sustained winds of 35+ mph for at least 3 hours - who knew?!). So far we have about a foot of snow on the ground, and we clocked 60mph gusts here in the burbs.
My original flight was scheduled to leave today at 5:10pm, right in the middle of the storm. So, I rebooked it last night, planning to fly out the next day, shortening but still salvaging my Thursday at Disneyland. Ten minutes ago, a text alert sounded, and, unfortunately, it wasn’t my girlfriend; it was a cancelation notification for tomorrow’s flight.
Alas, dear Disneyland, t’wasn’t meant to be.
Have you ever had to cancel a trip due to weather, a life event, or just plain ‘ol something out of your control? What did you do instead? Let’s commiserate!
