Welcome to this week’s Disney Parks news roundup! Our beloved parks keep churning out the news, so let’s hop right in!
Splash Mountain Re-theme Announced
Unless you’ve been living under a rock - and who could blame you in 2020?! - you’ve undoubtedly heard about the re-theming of Splash Mountain. The problematic Song of the South theme will be replaced by The Princess and the Frog, continuing the story of Princess Tiana and her friends. The extension of New Orleans Square and integration of Princess Tiana into the parks is a no-brainer in this humble blogger’s opinion. Read more about it on the Disney Parks Blog!
Tokyo Disney Resort Announces Reopening Date
The Oriental Land Company announced the reopening date for the Tokyo Disney Resort. The resort hotels will reopen to stays beginning June 30th, and the theme parks will reopen to guests on July 1st. Date-specific reservations opened up June 25th.
Disneyland Resort Delays Reopening
The state of California announced they will not issue permission for themed entertainment venues to reopen until after the July 4th holiday, forcing Disney to delay the reopening of the Disneyland Resort. Originally scheduled to reopen on July 17th to coincide with the 65th anniversary of Disney’s first park, Disney has been negotiating with theme park employee unions to ensure a safe reopening of the parks, hotels, and Downtown Disney District. A new reopening date has not been announced.
Disneyland Paris Reopening Date Announced
Disneyland Paris will begin a “phased reopening” of the resort. Beginning July 15th, the Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios parks will reopen, along with Disney’s Newport Bay Club hotel and Disney Village. Additional hotels will reopen as time progresses.
